Ayurvedic Approach to Healthy Digestion
30 March 2026 • Dr. Rasika Ashilwar

Ayurveda places digestion at the centre of health. The digestive fire, or Agni, is seen as the engine that processes food into nourishment. When Agni is strong, even simple food nourishes; when it is weak, even good food may not be well absorbed.
How you eat matters
Ayurveda gives as much attention to the manner of eating as to the menu: eat when you are genuinely hungry, sit down and eat calmly, chew well, and avoid a next meal before the previous one is digested.
Inconsistent eating times and distracted, hurried meals are among the most common and most overlooked causes of digestive discomfort in modern life.
A word on the plate
Individualised guidance is best — what suits one person may not suit another. In general, warm, freshly prepared food, suited to your constitution and the season, supports digestion better than cold and heavy meals.
If digestion is a recurring concern, a consultation is the right first step rather than relying on general advice.
