Ayurvedic Daily Routine (Dinacharya)

23 February 2026 • Dr. Rasika Ashilwar

Dinacharya is the Ayurvedic practice of a daily routine. Its premise is simple: predictable, sensible habits reduce stress on the body-mind, and regular rhythms support balance.

Begin the day well

A classical day begins early, with waking before sunrise, cleansing, and a little oil application before bathing. For many modern schedules, the essence matters more than the exact hour: give yourself an unhurried, screen-free start.

Morning is also a natural time for movement and a light, warm breakfast suited to your digestion — a heavy, hurried meal sets a heavy tone for the day.

Midday and evening rhythm

Ayurveda considers midday the peak of digestion, making it the ideal time for the largest meal — eaten calmly, mindfully and without distraction.

Evenings are for winding down: lighter food, gentle movement or rest, and a regular, consistent bedtime. The quality of your sleep shapes nearly everything else.

Make it yours

Dinacharya is not a rigid checklist. Your routine should fit your constitution, your work and your life. A practitioner can help you build a routine that is genuinely sustainable for you.
